9-7-17 Cairn Observation Loop

Ultra classic Juneau ridge loop up Blackerby, over to Cairn Peak, over Observation Peak and back via Juneau Ridge.  Maybe 16-17 miles and 6-7k vert?  I don't know.  Fun.  Shit cell phone pics.  Out of order.

Backside of Mt Olds.  Ski terrain deluxe.

From summit of Observation.  Cairn Peak on right with Lemon Glacier.   Blackerby ridge leads to Cairn.

The incredible exit out Juneau Ridge.

On Observation, looking at Split Thumb.

Lemon Glacier.

1-22-16 Gastineau Peak

Dawn patrol, no, make that a night patrol, up Gastineau Peak.   Snowline was around 900ft to start skinning, but that's because the trees are so thick on the Mt Roberts trail.  Snow was basically ice, with my ski crampons not penetrating the "snow".  Pretty ridiculous, but skiable as long as it wasn't too steep.  Here come the rains.........stuff is going to get trashed below 1000ft I'd imagine.
Mt Jumbo over Douglas and the Gastineau Channel
Mt Juneau on the right.  Most of those couloirs cliff out into ice climbs.

Mt Juneau on the right, Douglas on the left.   Looking down NW ridge of Mt Gastineau.

12-23-16 Cairn Peak area

Solo tour up Blackerby Ridge in the dark.  Had minimal route finding difficulties at a steep, cliff section.  No biggie.  Then cruised the ridge to the base of Cairn Peak.  Opted to stay off of it due to solo tour and wanting to get back down to get on the water.  Slowly piecing together the terrain and access routes.  It's odd being in a foreign mtn range after spending nearly 20 years in the Wasatch.

Link to GPS file of tour.  Red line is another guys track, Yellow line is mine.  Using both to figure out the approach better.

12/14/2016 Dan Moller Cabin area

Quick tour up to the Dan Moller hut and above trying to put the pieces together before the weather goes bad and it's all obscured.  Tons of great, safe terrain on Douglas.  The higher peaks behind Juneau need to ripen up a bit before I want to get on that stuff.  Needs to be bomber, as most of it has huge exposure.

12-13-16 Beta Pics-More

Haven't been skiing, because I've been flying for work.  So here are some aerial pics of the last 10 miles flying into Juneau.
