12/15/16 Mt Jumbo

Thrashed my way up Mt Jumbo this morning.  Took the summer trail because I didn't know any better, and that sucked.  Found the winter exit on the way out.  Now it's dialed in.  Need more snow before the main couloir fills in.

GPS track (Yellow) for winter ascent.  Follows snowmobile route up gully, then up shoulder.  Some exposure to avy hazard.

Wanted to try to get some sunrise shots of Stephens Passage.  Success, but super cold in doing so.

12-4-16 Eaglecrest Tour (Pk 2970)

Got up at the crack-o-dawn to try to capture the sunrise.  Got to the high point (pk 2970) an hour early, then proceeded to freeze my ass off for an hour waiting around.  By the time the sun rose, the teaser clouds had rolled in and obstructed the views.

We have about 1+ft at 1000ft and about 3.5-4ft at 3,000ft.  Good start to the season.  Now for a long, cold, dry spell.  Hope to get out again tomorrow morning for another crack at the sunrise.

All grainy photos taken pre-sunrise, hence the grainy (high ISO) nature of them.

12-1-2016 First day of the season.

First day of the season. Lee and I skinned up Eaglecrest for a one lap wonder, then went down and picked Alex up from school and raced back up there for his first day of skiing ever. Got kicked off the groomers as they were prepping for opening day, so we hiked and skied mank. After about an hour he was gliding down alone and loving it. Hopefully the forecast pans out and we get some more snow at lower elevations. We'll see.

Hiking up and skiing down in frozen, crusted mank.
